Sjogren's Syndrome
What is Sjogren's Syndrome?

Sjogren’s Syndrome is an autoimmune disorder that primarily affects the body’s moisture-producing glands, causing dryness in the mouth and eyes. In this condition, the immune system mistakenly attacks these glands, leading to a reduction in their ability to produce saliva and tears. While Sjogren's primarily targets the salivary and lacrimal glands, it can also affect other parts of the body such as the joints, lungs, kidneys, and nerves.
symptoms
The hallmark symptoms include dry eyes (which may feel gritty or burning) and dry mouth (making it difficult to speak, chew, or swallow).
Some patients also experience swelling of the salivary glands, frequent dental cavities due to lack of saliva, and cracked lips. In addition to dryness, people with Sjogren’s may suffer from joint pain, fatigue, and muscle weakness.
Secondary symptoms can include skin dryness, chronic cough, or digestive issues.
